Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance’s iFAMI Project Uses SOA to Boost Efficiency

An innovative project dubbed iFAMI from Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance is using SOA and a variety of innovative technologies to more quickly respond to market changes, better understand the company’s book of business and increase efficiencies. The solution involved technologies from Microsoft partner MajescoMastek and Windows-based HP Extreme, as well as from BlueWave Technology and OneShield. The iFAMI solution was recently honored with the distinguished Model Carrier of the Year award from Boston-based advisory and consulting firm Celent.

Project objectives for this technology initiative were to deliver critical business applications and integrate new and existing applications along with other external service providers. Integration continues to be realized through a standards-based messaging infrastructure deployed as middleware in a best-of-breed environment.

MajescoMastek’s Web-based configurable billing applications STG Billing allowed Farmers Mutual to convert more than 300,000 legacy billing transactions. The new billing system allows the company to meet increasingly demanding customer service requirements and regulatory changes and provide flexible payment options and new products to its policy holders. HP Extreme, which has a Windows-based interface, was used for document automation. BlueWave Technology’s Web-based PipelineClaims was used for core claims, combining core claims administration capabilities with business process management. OneShield’s highly configurable OneShield Dragon, which combines defined standards-based business processes with Web-components, was used for policy management.
