Strengthening investments in learning and development will help to lead the world’s economies out of recession. The business world is also investing in new ITIL Service Management and VMWare Virtualization Technologies, database Performance, and Business Intelligence.
“Businesses understand the importance of investing in skills and now is the time to increase learning initiatives, not to decrease them. New skills drive innovation and progress and, while much focus is centered around the credit crunch and getting finance flowing, commitment to investing in new skills will be one of the most important things that businesses can do to shorten the recession,” said Global Knowledge’s Janet Way.
“Businesses will invest in new technologies if they provide competitive advantage or if they help to make savings.”
She stated that Global Knowledge is seeing growth in ITIL Service Management and in VMWare Virtualization Technology courses.
Another training provider John Bryce Training, part of the Matrix group, is now offering a course on Oracle database performance enhancements. Among the topics discussed are: Oracle 10g/11g Self Diagnostics & Tuning Features, AWR & ADDM, Advisory Infrastructure, coping with loads in extreme situations, accelerating important processes, maintaining service quality, resource allocation, and efficient configuration management for development in a database environment.
Microsoft’s latest offerings include SQL Server’s Business Intelligence courses, as this is a hot area and employers are hiring people with these skills. Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) solutions can help improve business performance by driving better decision making. Powered by Microsoft SQL Server and delivered through the familiar Microsoft 2007 Office system front-end, Microsoft BI solutions work together to provide value to users of all types across an organization.
An area that remains in demand is Project Management, particularly the PMP certification.
Conclusion
We all need to position ourselves with the skills that are in demand now, and persuade employers that training in skills that will add to the bottom line are an excellent investment not only for the individual but the organization.
